At some point in my formative years, I heard the phrase “hope springs eternal” used in relation to baseball Spring Training and until recently, I never questioned the connection. Since then, whenever I have heard the phrase uttered, I assumed the utterer was talking about Spring Training. Of course, now I’m old and smart, and [...]

Happy Birthday Number 10
Today is the 70th birthday of Ronald Edward Santo, former Cubs third baseman, Cubs radio analyst, and arguably the Cubs #1 fan. Happy Birthday, Ron! May this be the last birthday you spend without the title “Hall of Famer” in front of your name.
Litigation Could Drive Cubs Out Of Arizona
Players are in camp and the annual rite that is Spring Training is underway. Life is good, although news from camp has been slow. That doesn’t mean that things aren’t happening. Unfortunately for the Cubs, most of the news for them in Arizona has been off the field.
The Lunacy of Pre-Season Baseball Predictions
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been reading articles talking about how the 2010 baseball season is going to turn out. Everyone has an opinion. I understand that. But what some people are doing is actually creating systems to predict the outcome of the upcoming season. Baseball prediction systems are not new. They’ve been [...]
Cubs Beat Theriot
The Cubs had their arbitration hearing yesterday with Ryan Theriot. The Cubs offered $2.6 million and Theriot asked for $3.4 million. Paul Sullivan from the Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs won the arbitration hearing. Theriot will be paid $2.6 million.
The Hypocrisy Of MLB Knows No Bounds

Pitchers and Catcher Report
Tomorrow is the official day when Cubs pitchers and catchers are supposed to report to the Spring Training facility in Mesa. It is the official start of the Spring Training season (games begin in March) and most Cubs pitchers and catchers are already in camp. According to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com, Carlos Zambrano, Randy Wells, [...]
I’m A Cubs Schizophrenic
What are the Cubs going to do in 2010? I can easily build a case that the Cubs will have a great, resurgent year. Unfortunately, I can just as easily build a case that 2010 will be as big of a disaster as 2009. I’m normally a glass is half full kind of guy. If you look [...]
Who Is Xavier Nady?
The Cubs signed Xavier Nady to a one-year/$3.3 million deal (plus incentives) on January 28 of this year. But what do we really know about Mr. Nady? I decided to invesitigate. The first thing I learned is that I have been pronouncing his first name incorrectly. I’ve been referring to him as Zavier, but his name [...]
Arizona Hits First Roadblock With Cubs Spring Training Proposal
Arizona lawmakers have crafted a plan that includes a tax on all Cactus League tickets to help raise the $84 million needed to build the Cubs new Spring Training facility in Mesa. The proposal drew immediate opposition from representatives of both the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago White Sox. White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf was [...]
