The strong pitching of the past two days continued – at least for the Cubs – as they shutout the Dodgers 7-0. Ryan Dempster was the pitching hero on Saturday, throwing seven innings of four hit ball. He gave up one walk and struck out five on the way to the victory.
Three of the members of the .sub-250 club led the offensive attack for the Cubs. Milton Bradley went 3-4, Mike Fontenot was 2-3 with a double, a triple and 2 RBI, and Reed Johnson was 3-3 with a HR and 2 RBI. In fact, Johnson’s performance was good enough to raise his batting average to .270 and remove him from the sub-.250 list. Congratulations, Reed!
Unfortunately, the news wasn’t all good for the Cubs. Alfonso Soriano went 0-5 on the day with two stikeouts and has become the newset member of the sub-.250 list. Here’s hoping that Alfonso’s stay on the list is very short.
Today’s sub-.250 list looks like this:
- Ryan Freel .167/.211/.167
- Milton Bradley .223/.346/.402
- Aaron Miles .204/.250/.265
- Geovany Soto .215/.338/.273
- Mike Fontenot .230/.314/.403
- Alfonso Soriano .246/.305/.482
- Derrick Lee .246/.321/.413
The Cubs and the Dodgers face off tonight in the final game of the series. Two lefties will do combat as Sean Marshall (3-3) takes on Eric Milton (1-0) in a contest that will be broadcast on ESPN.
