I really hate this time of year. It’s cold, the days are often grey, and worst of all, there’s no baseball. I watched the 10-part Ken Burns Baseball documentary the other night. It made me miss baseball even more. My wife turned on Field of Dreams last night and I refused to watch it.

There was a lot of talk at the Winter Meetings for the Cubs, but not much action. There was a lot of talk about Milton Bradley, but he’s still on the roster at the moment. Jayson Stark of ESPN.com Tweets that a potential deal between the Cubs a Rays that would send Bradley to Tampa [...]

Early last week the Blue Jays were reported to have contacted a handful of teams, including the Cubs, about a possible trade for former Cy Young winner Roy Halladay. Halladay is under contract with the Blue Jays for one more year and new Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopulous would like to trade the pitcher since [...]

The Cubs have been involved to one extent or another in several trade rumors so far this off season. The most persistent rumors revolve around trading Milton Bradley. The annual GM meetings got underway earlier this week in Chicago and all of the Cubs talk has centered around disgruntled outfielder Milton Bradley. The Cubs need a middle-of-the-order run producing bat, a center fielder, a lead-off hitter, a second baseman, and potentially a closer, but they can’t really turn their attention to those needs until [...]

A few days ago, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Cubs were not going to offer Rich Harden arbitration or try to sign him for next season. But with the news about Ted Lilly undergoing shoulder surgery and potentially not being ready for the start of the 2010 season, the odds of Harden’s [...]

Over the past three posts, I’ve taken a look at what the offseason would/could/should look like. In part 1, I looked at the infield, part 2 was devoted to the outfield, and I looked at the pitchers in part 3. If you haven’t had a chance to read those posts yet, I’d suggest taking a [...]

Tom Ricketts and the Ricketts family are on the verge of becoming the new owners of the Cubs and custodians of all of the team’s fan’s hopes and dreams. According to an article by Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago, the ownership baton should officially pass from Sam Zell and the Tribune Company sometime next week. Ricketts [...]

Wonder what all the hype surrounding Rudy Jaramillo is about? To hear Derek Lee talk about it, hitting coaches don’t really make much of a difference. After Cubs hitting coach Von Joshua was released, Lee commented that hitters know their swings and what adjustments they need to make. The role of the hitting coach, according [...]
